Malaga Island Interpretive Sea Kayak and Hike Tour

Green Building 3 copyOn our family friendly tour, we will be leaving this fishing building behind after launching our sea kayaks  and looking for the shell beach at the northern end of Malaga Island where we will land. The trip takes about an hour of sea kayaking each way and is appropriate for beginners. Social distancing and face coverings will be required based on current guidelines.

On the island we will be walking on an uneven woods trail/path after checking in at the kiosk providing a historical timeline of the Malaga Colony by Maine Coast Heritage Trust. Look at the pictures below.

Master Maine Guide Alice will be giving an interpretive tour of the island helping you to imagine how our native americans used the island, how the Malaga Colony islanders lived, and then how the island is used and not used now. The walking is not difficult, but it is not for someone that can't easily walk uneven surfaces or at least 1.25 miles unassisted. At the southern end of the island, we will have a snack or lunch break, before walking back to the northern beach on a different path.

You will want to wear: quick drying clothing, closed toed shoes that can get wet, a hat and sunglasses, sunscreen. You will want to bring: a small daypack, non-aerosal bug repellant, at least 32 ounces of water, LUNCH, a windbreaker or poly fleece. Some people choose to change their water shoes to light hikers. You can bring a camera. Your guide Alice will be taking some candid photos during the trip.

The trip will run unless there are unsafe paddling conditions such as thunderstorms or extremely high winds or waves, in which case we will work to reschedule you. We do paddle in light fog, rain, and sun. Tandem and single kayaks will be used during the trip and the guide will assist you. Sometimes we do switch boats during the trip for group safety and maximum fun. This trip happens on the fourth Sunday of May, June, July, August, and September.  If these dates are not good for you or your small group, you can contact Master Maine Guide Alice and book a private tour.
