 Chart workCoastal Navigation for small boats is a three hour course where you will learn the basics of coastal navigation geared for sea kayakers, SUP users, and small motorboat users. Future Registered Maine Guides for Sea Kayaking and Tide-Water Fishing specialties should take this course.

This is the hands-on portion of the course where you will practice using the tools needed for coastal navigation, learn about charts and how to read them, and begin to see hazards associated with the waterways. You will be given access to an online course that will serve as your handbook in advance.

SK Group Future Registered Maine Guides for Recreation, Hunting, and Fishing specialties need to know how to paddle a sea kayak and a SUP correctly. They also need to know how to teach those skills to clients and how to rescue an unexpected swimmer or a capsized sea kayak or tow one. 

Join a workshop to learn and practice these skills. Participants must wear either a wetsuit or drysuit and a PFD at all times. Limited rentals of wetsuits are available. This is an outdoor workshop that is dependent on open calm water. The meeting location will be the Mere Point Boat Launch, in Brunswick, ME. A hot lunch will be provided as well as snacks.
