Registered Maine Guide group training @ Merrymeeting Adult Education

Compass Hand heldRegistered Maine Guides have been leading clients into and on the woods, fields, and waters of the State of Maine for over 100 years. The first Registered Maine Guide was a woman!  Join Master Maine Guide Alice Bean Andrenyak's group Registered Maine Guide training course sponsored by Merrymeeting Adult Education.

The course will meet one night each week from 6-9pm in Topsham. Each week you will have homework to increase your knowledge and your skills needed to be a Registered Maine Guide. The weekly classes start on January 22, 2020 and finish on April 8, 2020. There will be no class on school vacation - February 19th. We have built in snow dates in case an individual class is cancelled. The outdoor skill days will be scheduled at the first class meeting, so bring your calendars.

If you are interested in becoming a Registered Maine Guide with a specialty (specialties) of: Recreation, Hunting, Fishing, Sea Kayaking or Tide-water Fishing, this course is for you!  Your textbook will be online giving you 24/7 access. From day one you will be moving from just being an outdoors enthusiast to becoming a Registered Maine Guide.   Winter Fire Building DSCN2971

As part of the course there will be two all-day outdoors skills sessions. One will be held at the end of February or beginning of March where we will focus on map & compass skills, shelters, cooking, safety, fire building, lost or separated clients and snowshoeing. The second will be based on your specialty choice and either will be canoeing and SUP'ng skills or sea kayaking and SUP'ng skills. The second session will not be held until April.

At the end of the course we will play the GIT (Guide in Training) game that Master Maine Guide Alice created which will help you begin to prepare for your oral examinations. Practice written examinations will be available within your online textbook/course. Mock oral examinations will be scheduled to further prepare you for your real ones.
